<p>PURPOSE: A system for determining and utilizing consumables used by an electric arc welding machine and a method are provided to detect the amount of the used metal, and to decide the consumables used by the electric arc welding machine based on the amount of energy used for the electric arc welding machine during welding. CONSTITUTION: A system and a method determine the approximate weight of metal consumables used by an electric arc welding machine(10) over a period of welding time. The system comprises a program to calculate the total energy exerted by the welding machine over a period of welding, a divider to divide the total energy by a number including power of a selected non-unity factor to obtain the weight. When the energy is in mega joules, the factor is in the range of 3.2-4.2 and preferably approximately 4.0.</p> |
