Use of a product (I), comprising an isolated protein N comprising a 422 amino acid (SEQ ID No. 37) sequence fully defined in the specification; a polypeptide corresponding to N or C-terminal linkage of the protein with a label; an antibody or a fragment of monoclonal/polyclonal antibody directed against protein N; and a chip/filter of the protein/polypeptide to prepare agents to detect infection by corona virus associated with SARS, is new. Use of a product (I), comprising: (a) an isolated protein N (i) comprising a fully defined 422 amino acid (SEQ ID No. 37) sequence given in the specification; (b) a polypeptide (ii) corresponding to an N-terminal or C-terminal linkage of the protein N (SEQ ID No. 37) with a label; (c) an antibody (iii) or a fragment (iv) of monoclonal or polyclonal antibody directed against the protein N; and (d) a chip or a filter of the protein or polypeptide comprising (i-iv), for the preparation of agents to detect an infection by a corona virus associated with severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and optionally of serotype of a corona virus associated with SARS. Independent claims are also included for: (1) detection of an infection by a corona virus associated with SARS from a biological sample comprising: contacting the biological sample with (i-iv) or a chip or a filter with (i) or (ii), and the revelation of the antigen-antibody complex by all appropriate means; (2) a kit for detection of an infection by a corona virus associated with SARS, comprising at least one of the reactive product (I); (3) immunogen composition (II) comprising at least one product (a protein (i) or a polypeptide (ii) and nucleic acid molecules coding the proteins and the polypeptides); (4) immune complex formed by an antibody directed specifically against an epitope of corona virus associated with SARS, and an isolated or purified protein of SEQ ID No. 37 or a polypeptide corresponding to the N-terminal or C-terminal linkage of the protein N with a label; and (5) use of an isolated or purified polynucleotide comprising one of 2 fully defined 1377 base pair sequences (SEQ ID No. 36 and 38) given in the specification and by a polynucleotide coding for a polypeptide corresponding to the N-terminal or C-terminal linkage of the protein N (SEQ ID No. 37) with a label, to induce the production of an antibody directed against the coded protein by the polynucleotide and capable of recognizing specifically an epitope of corona virus associated with SARS.
