A method is described for vacuum impregnation of particulate material in an impregnation installation (16, 16') which has an impregnation chamber (54, 84) that can be placed under vacuum, an inlet orifice (64, 64') for transferring the material into the impregnation chamber (54, 84) and an outlet orifice (82, 82') for transferring the material out of the impregnation installation (16, 16'), with the following method steps treatment of the material with a substance in order thus to produce a treated material, the sealing characteristics of which in a stuffing screw are improved in comparison with the untreated material, transport of the treated material by means of a stuffing screw (52) to the inlet orifice (64, 64'), transfer of the treated material by means of the stuffing screw (52) through the inlet orifice (64, 64') into the impregnation chamber (54, 84), so that the treated material seals the inlet orifice (64, 64') during inward transfer, impregnation of the material in the impregnation chamber (54, 84) with an impregnating agent under reduced pressure, transport of the impregnated material to the outlet orifice (82, 82') and outward transfer of the impregnated material from the impregnation installation (16, 16') through the outlet orifice (82, 82'), so that the material seals the outlet orifice (82, 82') during outward transfer. |
