The invention relates to novel cycloalcanodione derivatives which are agonists of serotonin receptor subtype (5- hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) 5-HT1A and which are hence useful in the treatment of pathological states for which an agonist of said receptors is indicated. Said derivatives are particularly useful as neuroprotective agents, more particularly in the treatment and prophylaxis of cerebral damage caused by ischemic or traumatic stroke. Said cycloalcanodione derivatives generally correspond to formula (I).
