PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of identifying neutralization regions of viral proteins which fail to elicit an immune response in man when encountered through infection or naturally through the environment, but do elicit an immune response in non-human animals.
SOLUTION: This method comprises (a) extracting HIV proteins from a lysate of an HIV strain; (b) immunizing a non-human mammal with the extracted matter; (c) obtaining antisera from the immunized mammal; and (d) employing the antisera from this mammal in a competitive immunoassay with human HIV antisera to identify regions of HIV proteins which are recognized by antibodies in the mammal antisera, but not recognized by antibodies in the human antisera; (e) determining a region that is neutralized or inactive.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
|
