<p>The steel cords and other metallic components are stripped from the tyre carcasses which are then reduced to granules. Part of the granules are added to a solvent, such as a bitumen varnish, to form a thin sludge to which are added the remaining granules together with organic or inorganic bulking agents such as sawdust, cork granules or ground asbestos, to give a thicker sludge for transport to the site in sealed containers as an insulating material for roofings or cavity walls. The purpose is to provide a clinging insulating material and providing a use for waste tyres.</p> |
