In the illustrated dishwashing machine the channel 12 is filled with water agitated during the washing operation by an impeller. A further web 15 on the door 13 extends over the channel wall 8 and prevents excessive turbulence in the channel 12. A hinging and counterbalancing structure for the door comprises two torsion bar springs 23, one end of each of which extends through a pivot hole 19 in a hinge member 20 secured to the door and is formed with a J-shaped extremity 29 which is held against rotation in a slot 31 in a bracket 32 secured to the machine frame. The opposite end of each spring 23 is held in an aperture 25 and a notch 27 in the hinge member 18. When the door is opened an end 30 of each spring 23 forms a stop engaged by a hooked portion 33 of a hinge member 20, and the resistance to torsion of the springs 23 in part counterbalances the weight of the door. |
