1306177 Hydrogenated olefin oligomers; lubricants SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 15 June 1971 [17 June 1970 (2)] 27961/71 Headings C5E and C5F Hydrogenated C 1 -C 84 oligomers of C 6 -C 12 normalα-olefins having a molar ratio of naphthenic to isoparaffinic oligomers of at least 0À7 : 1 may be prepared by oligomerizing the starting olefin(s) in the presence of MAlX 4 catalyst (where M = alkali metal, X = halogen) at 50-200‹ C. the molar ratio of catalyst toα-olefin being 1 : 5-1 : 500, and hydrogenating the oligomeric product. Hydrogenation may be effected by using Pt, Pd, Ni or oxidic catalysts on carriers such as SiO 2 and Al 2 O 3 . The hydrogenated oligomeric mixture may be used as a synthetic lubricating oil or the base for a grease thickened with soaps, clay or organic thickeners such as polyureas, polyamides and amido-ureas. Other additives which may be present are diphenylamine, phenyl-naphthylamines, phenothiazine, NaNO 2 , amino- or benzo-triazoles, MoS 2 , and sodium sebacate.
|
