1356784 Pneumatic tyres DUNLOP HOLDINGS Ltd 10 June 1971 [13 June 1970] 28724/70 Heading B7C A pneumatic tyre having tread reinforcement or breaker comprises a tread having at least one substantially circumferentially extending rib 11, a plurality of transversely extending slots which may be of sinusoidal 14 or zig-zag configuration are provided in the rib, each slot extending from one edge of the rib across the whole of the rib width to form areas of tread rubber 18, 19, Fig. 1, which will interlock to resist a transverse force applied to either of said areas in either direction to provide resistance to the force. Each slot is of varying depth, being shallower at the edge of the rib than elsewhere and the average depth being less than the rib height. The tyre may comprise a radial ply carcass, and the breaker may include steel cords.
