1399412 Terminals LEVITON MFG CO Inc 8 June 1973 [14 June 1972] 27411/73 Heading H2E A terminal 10, of, e.g. brass, for aluminium wiring 18 comprises a contact plate 16, which is provided with a large number of closely spaced serrations 19 covered by a thin layer of metal 20, e.g. indium, gallium, or the alloys indiumlead, indium-tin, indium-cadmium, indiumzinc, so that when the aluminium wire is brought into pressure engagement with the contact surface, by, e.g. the head of terminal screw 17, numerous breaks are caused in the insulating oxide film, the metal 20 which is flowable, being spread over the contact sites 18b so formed in the aluminium, preventing oxidation thereof and maintaining good electrical contact. The serrations 19 are formed either unidirectionally, Fig. 1, or may extend radially in four directions from each screw-hole (Fig. 7, not shown). The serrations may also be of truncated V-shape (Fig. 6, not shown). Details of cycling tests to which the terminals are subjected are given.
|
