The main services accommodating channel is made up from individual U-sectioned sub-components which can be closed by a cover, each such component having interfacing guideways in the sidewalls, and connecting strips of sheet metal for joining components together. Further elements incorporated in the sub-components comprise two shaped-section battens (20) at the open ends of the U-shaped-section arms, two more (24) at the bottom corners, and flat strips (25, 26) forming the base and sidewalls, with their edges inserted in grooves (23) formed on the battens and held in place there. The strips are in several layers, one or more serving for reinforcement or connection. There may be single-layered strips instead, of thickness corresponding to the width of the grooves.
