<p>An engine (1) drives a pair of pumps (3, 4), which in turn cause a hydraulic ram (5) to operate. This drives by a rack-and-pinion mechanism (6) a further pair of pumps (7, 8) which actuate ram (9) and so on. Hydraulic energy is thus transformed into increased mechanical energy, which is re-transformed into hydraulic energy, the process being repeated as desired, and finally relieving the driving engine of load.</p> |
