1456553 Benzothiazolines TOKYO TANABE CO Ltd 23 Jan 1974 [23 Jan 1973] 3162/74 Heading C2C Novel compounds of Formula I in which R=H or CH 3 , and salts thereof when R = H, are prepared by reducing a compound of Formula II in which X is an acid residue, with a borohydride reducing agent, optionally in the presence of an organic solvent, and, if desired converting the resulting acid to a salt thereof or to the methyl ester, or converting the resulting methyl ester to the free acid. Compounds II are prepared by methylation of 5-(carboxymethyl or methoxycarbonylmethyl)-2-phenyl-benzothiazole. Pharmaceutical compositions having analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic activity comprise a compound I or a pharmacologically compatible salt thereof, together with a pharmaceutical carrier therefor.
