<p>A gas blast circuit breaker using liquid sulphur hexafluoride in its arc chamber, has a moving contact (8') with a hole (22) down the middle and forming part of a piston (56) which slides inside an annular piston (58) which provides arc blow-out and slides in a bore (23). The parts form the auxiliary variable volume chamber (32') connected by the hole (22) to the blow-out chamber (4). During release, the gas pressure moves the two pistons (56, 58) until full travel of the moving contact (8'). The second piston (58) travels further to increase the volume of the auxiliary chamber (32') and provides an extended blow-out.</p> |
