The manhole cover is of the type where there is a gap between the frame and the edge of the cover. This gap extends underneath the base of the cover to form a housing for the lever. The lever has a curved section with a pivot towards one end which has at least one tooth for lifting the cover. The pivot rests on the upper edge of the rim of the frame while the teeth are inserted into the housing under the base of the cover. Two handles are provided, one being an extension of the lever, the other being fixed at right angles to the lever.
