A coal pick has a main body portion (1), and a sharp pointed cutter portion (9) which is secured to it by a bolt (13) passing through them both. The sloping front face (11) of the cutter portion has a hexagonal recess (15) into which the bolt head (14) fits so that the bolt cannot rotate, and a hole (17) behind the recess, to clear the bolt. Similarly, the lower part (7) of the body portion (1) has a clearance hole (18) through it, for the bolt (13). A lock nut (22) and washer (21) are fitted on the threaded end (19) of the bolt to clamp the cutter onto the body portion. The front end (8) of the body portion has a recess (25) to locate a lug (24) on the rear face (10) of the cutter.
