To avoid undesired bulging at the trailing end of the rubber blanket, seen in the direction of rotation of the rubber-covered cylinder of an offset printing machine, at least one of the two tensioning spindles (4) serving for tensioning the rubber blanket and arranged in the gap of the cylinder (1) is connected to a spring element (10). The spring element (10) in the form of a torsion bar is arranged in the tensioning spindle (4) of hollow construction. One end of the torsion bar (10) is connected to a worm wheel (13), which with a worm (14) serves for the manual preadjustment of the tensioning spindle (4), and the other end is connected to the tensioning spindle (4) itself. During the manual preadjustment of the tension of the rubber blanket, the torsion bar (10) is turned. The force thus occurring is utilised for the continuous automatic retensioning of the rubber blanket during the printing operation. <IMAGE>
