1488834 Gas scrubbing IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 24 March 1975 [8 May 1974] 20281/74 Heading B1R Gases are scrubbed by passing them upwardly from inlet duct 2 to outlet duct 3 in a tower and through a liquid contact zone 16 comprising freely movable, lightweight (e.g. plastics) elements 13 and having a perforated plate lower boundary 5, the open area of which is not greater than 40% of the total area and also having a drain line 8, the flow rates of gas and liquid being such as to produce a pressure drop of at least 0.4" of water across the lower boundary and thereby to impart motion to the elements. The liquid is sprayed upwards from inlet 6. A mist eliminator 14 is also provided.
