The heat pump based on the Peltier effect incorporates a de-icing arrangement operated by a switch incorporated in the circuit. The single thermo element (1) is fed from a rectifier bridge (5-7) connected to the secondary coil (4) of a transformer in the conventional manner. The element (1) is also in series with a secondary (11) of an auxiliary transformer with the switch (12) in the supply line to its primary winding (10). When the switch is closed, an additional current passes through the element (1), causing its temp. to increase sufficiently high for de-icing. The switch can be operated by a thermostat to give automatic control. A similar circuit is shown for a high power heat pump.
