The device for testing the hearing ability of people comprises a plurality of test positions, each comprising a playback device and an operating device to record audible test tones whose duration, frequency and level are unaffected by the operating device and which are identical for all test positions. A digital memory (10) is assigned to each test position (7). The memory contains an addressing and writing device which is controlled in such a way that, following actuation of the operating device (8), the memory contents represent both the test tone frequency and the associated level. Furthermore, an output device (13) is provided to output the signals stored in the memory. As a result of these measures, the device is less prone to interference, is more flexible in terms of the number of test positions and allows simple evaluation. <IMAGE>
