An Electro-Photographic Copying Machine

In an electrophotographic copying machine the recording sheet feeding means (7) is reciprocable in a plane parallel to a stationary flat photosensitive member (13) between a remote position and a position overlying the member (13). An optical system (1) is similarly reciprocable between a remote position and a position where it reflects light from the original (12) onto the photosensitive member (13), the sheet feeding means being moved concurrently with the optical system but at a different speed. Developing means (15) is located below the path of the sheet feeding means (7) and is located in substantially the same plane as the photosensitive member. The photosensitive member (13) is preferably a grid, the image transfer to the recording sheet involving ion projection. The machine is compact and of simpler design than those with rotary photoconductive drums and simplifies registration in multi-colour copying.
