In the case of the railing, the upper flange comprises a hollow box profile (1) which has, on the underside, a cutout for placing on the head of the upright (2). The fastening is carried out by bolts (4) pushed transversely through the upright (2). The cable (5) secures the assembly, said securing also being effective at the butt joints of the hollow box profile (1). Said cable (5) is located in a lateral groove (6) of the hollow box profile (1) and, in the uprights, is guided in a loop such that it is located in upwardly open cutouts (10) of the upright (2), said cutouts being located on the side directed away from the groove (6). The cable (5) thus forms a loop, the latter being made possible by the inner wall of the groove (6) being cut back in the region beside the upright (2). This design achieves the object of threading the heavy cable through the profiles in a relatively simple manner. <IMAGE>
