<p>Triiodobenzonitrile derivs. of formula (I) and their esters, amides and salts are new: (where X is -NR1R2 or -Z-COOH; R1 is H or lower alkyl; R2 is lower acyl; Z is a direct bond or opt. branched alkylene; Y is H or COOH). 5-Cyano-2,4,6-triiodo-isophthalic acid (Ia) and its monomethylamide and bis-(2-hydroxyethyl)-amide; 5-cyano-2,4,6-triiodo-benzoic acid and its 3-acetamido deriv.; and beta-(2,4,6-triiodo-3-cyano-phenyl)-alpha-ethyl-propionic acid are specifically claimed. (I) are X-ray contrast agents with good general and esp. neural compatibility and lower toxicity than related cpds. They can be used intravenously, subarachnoidally or orally, e.g. in urography, angiography, myelography or chloegraphy. (I) are also intermediates for other X-ray contrast agents e.g. iodamide.</p> |
