Mining machine and face conveyor drive - uses linear motor with system for advancing to and retracting from cutting face

The underground mining system using a cutting chain or a rotary cutting head uses a linear motor for driving the cutter and/or the face conveyor. The inductive windings are mounted on a carrier which can be advanced and retracted from the cutting face, and can be incorporated in the structure of a set of advancing supports of known design. The conveyor or cutter can have a guide which moves inside a gap enclosed by the inductive windings. This guide can be plate shaped. The cutter and the conveyor can be mechanically connected together to be driven by a common linear motor.
