A portable ski wax applicator includes a container (12) having heat-conductive walls defining a wax-receiving well and a removable cover (62) rendering the container substantially splash-proof in normal use. The walls include a flat bottom wall (34) and end wall (36) extending obliquely from the bottom wall and having an orifice (94) extending therethrough, with a valve (96) urged outwardly by a spring (106) to close the orifice. A n electrical heating element (18) is located within a wall. A handle (20) is provided for moving the applicator along a ski surface with the end wall parallel to the surface so that the pressure of the surface on the end of the valve opens the valve to dispense wax onto the ski. The applicator is then moved along the surface with the bottom wall adjacent to and generally parallel to the surface for spreading the deposited wax on the surface. The object of the invention is to provide a portable ski wax applicator which is non-splashing and which incorporates metering valve to control liquid wax flow while eleminating dripping of wax. |
