1304475 Explosive compositions BOFORS AB 19 April 1971 [5 Feb 1970] 21239/71 Heading C1D Exudation from cast or pressed explosive charges comprising one or more meltable nitroaromatic compounds is inhibited by adding to the explosive not more than 1% by weight of a natural or synthetic polymer which forms a viscous gel with low melting impurities or eutectic mixtures in the explosive. The polymer is a cellulose derivative, acrylic polymer, vinyl polymer, polyester, polyurethane or chloroprene polymer and should have lower sensitivity and higher stability than the explosive. Suitable polymers are cellulose acetate, cellulose acetate butyrate, polymethyl methacrylate, polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride, a polycarbonate, polychloroprene, or a polyurethane formed from diphenylmethane-4,4-diisocyanate and a linear polyester. Specified explosives are TNT, a mixture of TNT, hexogen, and wax, and a mixture of TNT and 2,2<SP>1</SP>,4,4<SP>1</SP>,6,6<SP>1</SP>-hexanitrostilbene as described in Specification 1,249,083. A small amount of a mixture of orthodinitrotoluene and paradinitrotoluene may also be present. |
