PURPOSE:To obtain a light weight sintered base plate having a high strength and a high porosity without the needs for conductive core by providing densely sintered grooves at fixed intervals in a specific iron fiber sintered body. CONSTITUTION:The densely sintered grooves 2 are provided at fixed intervals in the nickel-plated iron fiber sintered body 1 of a 90-95% porosity. The grooves are preferably formed by pressing prior to sintering, but not pressing after sintering. Also, the pressing is preferably strongly applied until the groove is flattened. The formation of the grooves by such a pressing even in the peripheral portion of the sintered body lends aid to prevent fine short-circuit between the ends of the fiber and the counter electrode.
