High voltage connector - uses flexible elastomer sleeve between insulator cap and insulator crown, and metal lining to control voltage gradients and corona

The push-on connector comprises a central conductor and a flexible elastomer sleeve with a rigid plastics outer enclosure, to cover the insulator top, and enhance its dielectric integrity. The insulator has a high voltage conductor passing through centre. The moulded elastomer sleeve fits tightly over the insulator crown and a rigid plastic cover fits over the elastomer sleeve to provide structural integrity. A metal lining inside the top part of the hard plastic cover spreads the dielectric stress. The chamber between the hard cover and the top of the elastomer sleeve is filled with a silicone compound to prevent air ionization. The exterior surface of the hard cap is coated with a zinc powder to reduce corona.
