Method and device for controlling the excitation interval of the ignition coil of an internal combustion engine

The excitation interval of an ignition coil which is determined basically on the basis of the speed of revolution of the machine is corrected in that an extension interval is added which is either a function of the speed of revolution of the machine or is equal to an upper limit value of the speed of revolution of the machine if an acceleration is perceived. The ignition coil is therefore supplied with a primary winding current for a desired interval even in the event of an acceleration so that an adequate ignition voltage is produced in order to ignite the fuel/air mixture in the cylinders of the machine correctly. The extended excitation interval is subsequently reduced incrementally in order to ensure a normal excitation interval in working conditions of the machine other than acceleration.
