Eye prepns. contg. active ingredients and collagen as a carrier were prepd. Thus, 5 kg cleaned, dried, sliced calf skin was mixed with a pH 2.5(HCl) aq. soln. of pepsin at 20≦̸C for 5 days, the viscous liq. filtered through cheese cloth the filtrate adjusted to pH 10 with NaOH to inactive pepsin, the filtrate adjusted to pH 7-8(HCl) and the pptd. collagen sepd. by centrifuge. Purified collagen was then succinylated, dissolved in pH 3 H2O-HCl, and mixed with pilocarpine. The mixt. was adjusted to pH 7.0, poured over a poly(Me methacrylate) board, and cut into 10 mg elliptical discs, which contained 7.5 mg collagen, 1.5mg pilocarpine, and 1.0 mg H2O.
