The tripod legs (3) are folded back over the tripod head to enclose the camera mounting. The heads (5) of the legs are cut with gear teeth and are gripped by a worm gear (4) driven by an internal spring motor (9) remote released. The legs fold back through more than 90 degrees and automatically raise the tripod head over the ground. The tripod and camera may be dropped from an aircraft and then erected by remote control. As the legs unfold they tilt the tripod head flat onto the ground, with the legs at right angles. Further action of the motor then raises the tripod head. The legs ends can be hinged (17) to sit on rough ground.
