<p>The piston (1) has a main body (11) with oil ways (13) drilled through it. Four of the holes (13A) are plain and eight (13B) have short radial oil ways (21) connecting the bottoms of the holes to an annular groove (20) machined in the bottom face of the body. Pairs of flexible shims (14-17) are bolted to the top and bottom of the body with backing washers (7,8) and locking rings (9,10). When the piston moves up and down the shims flex and open the oilways. However the permanently open narrow oilway (19B,13B,21,20,19A) ensures smooth acceleration of the piston.</p> |
