PURPOSE:To improve the properties of an air electrode such as performance stability and lifetime, by well mixing powder of nickel oxide with an appropriate quantity of a lithium compound, molding the mixture under low pressure and primarily baking the molded mixture at high temperature under an oxidizing atmosphere to provide an electrode base of less deformability and low electric resistance. CONSTITUTION:One mol of NiO powder is mixed with LiOH. The mixture is press-formed into a block not very compacted. The formed mixture is baked at 1,100 deg.C under air for about 5hr. The baked block is pulverized into powder. The powder is mixed with about 1 to 2% of CMC as a binder. The mixture is press- formed to a thickness of about 1mm. which is equal to that of an electrode to be manufactured. The thin formed mixture is sintered at 1,200 deg.C under air for 1hr so that the air electrode 2 is provided. Another lithium oxide may be used to attain the same performance. The optimal quantity of the lithium is 0.05 to 0.5mol for 1mol of the NiO. |
