A winding device for wire, in particular for drawn automatic welding wire, with more than two spools disposed coaxially adjacent one another on a drive shaft and with a wire guide device which is disposed so as to be displaceable parallel to the spool axis and by means of which the wire to be wound is moved backwards and forwards in each case in the region of one spool and then from one spool to the adjacent spool, a measuring device being provided for the amount of the wire to be wound so as to reduce the spool drive when the desired amount has been reached and to actuate adjusting motor for the step advance of the guide device, characterized in that a measuring reel (33) driven by the wire is used as the measuring device and acts on two different meter counters which are pre-adjustable to different amounts of wire, the first (34) of which meter counters reduces the spool rotational speed and the second (35) of which controls the adjusting motor (19).
