Device on looping machines for the continuous feeding and U-shaped laying of a hem band round the edge region of an article of body clothing

What is described is a device on looping machines, which continuously feeds a hem band, intended to be sewn together with an article of body clothing, to the article of body clothing pinned on the needle ring and which lays said hem band in a U-shaped manner round its edge located above the plane of the needle ring. In order to extend the range of use of looping machines also to those articles of which the edge to be provided with the hem band is of any shape, there is arranged above the needle ring and in the immediate vicinity of the sewing point a band guide which requires an extremely small part of the circumference of the needle ring for the laying and feeding of the hem band. Consequently, only the part of the edge of the article of body clothing which is located in the immediate vicinity of the sewing point and which is virtually always sufficiently straight need be pinned on the needle ring. The article of body clothing need be pinned onto the needle ring only shortly before the sewing point is reached and can be detached from the needle ring immediately after leaving the sewing point. This is a precondition for the sewing of articles having edges of any shape. <IMAGE>
