In order to secure the metal housing (2) of a prefabricated cable fitting having an insulating body (1) which can be pushed on and consists of elastic material, against uncontrolled destruction in the event of a short circuit, an electrically poorly conductive, heat-resistant protective layer (5) consisting of non-metallic material is provided on the inside of the metal housing.
