The invention relates to a head strip for index cards or index sheets, especially for hanging cards for deadline monitoring files, having a strip attached to the head piece and extending over the entire length thereof, the said strip consisting of a plurality of transparent strips which are integrally connected to each other at the upper head piece and extend parallel to each other, and between every two of which a longitudinal slot is formed receiving displaceably guided slides and/or signalling means. The strip masking the upper longitudinal slot forms a slot-shaped opening, for the access of an actuating pin or the like, over the entire length of the head piece, with its lower edge and a strip located below the latter, this opening being widened at one side of the head piece for the introduction of the signalling means into the longitudinal slot. For the resilient mounting and/or engagement of the signalling means which are displaceably guided in the longitudinal slot, the upper strip has transverse deformations extending over the entire length of the head piece and adapted to the signalling means.
