In order to achieve a certain spatial sound impression, in the mono operation of such equipment a pseudo stereo circuit is switched in. In stereo operation, in the case of television sets and portable radios with built-in loudspeakers it is disadvantageous that the distance between the loud speakers is limited by the dimensions of the housing and satisfactory stereo reproduction cannot be achieved on account of the low base width. Therefore, in stereo operation a stereo base-widening circuit is switched in, in order to increase the base width artificially by electronic means. In the case of the equipment just mentioned, according to the invention the pseudo stereo circuit and the stereo base-widening circuit are connected in series. By the process according to the invention, the latter are activated simultaneously in stereo sound operation.
