The invention relates to an apparatus for automatically pushing down bottle caps, having a device for transporting the bottles along rotating brushes, a device for rotating the same about their longitudinal axis during the linear transport and a device for removing the cap remains. At least one endless belt is arranged so as to be rotatable and resiliently mounted along the device for transporting the bottles, the surface normal of which belt is lined perpendicularly to the longitudinal axis of the bottles. A resilient strip for rolling off the bottles or a similar endless belt is arranged so as to be rotatable and resiliently mounted opposite the endless belt, and the endless belt as well as the opposite belt or the resilient strip are designed so as to be adjustable relative to one another. A cylindrical steel brush is mounted so as to be rotatable, pivotable and vertically adjustable at least above one of the endless belts or the resilient strip, the cylinder axis of which brush or its component on the horizontal plane being aligned in the transporting direction of the bottles. The bottle-guiding belts and/or the bottle-guiding belt and the resilient strip are fastened by their respective guide frame in each case in a guide receptacle which, for their part, are designed so as to be adjustable by threaded spindles with the aid of guides mounted in bushes so as to be movable horizontally and vertically with respect to the bottle-conveying direction.
