PURPOSE:To make the reuse of a magnetic disk device possible even when a failure occurs in a track, in which an initial program load (IPL) is stored, by assigning the track of another disk to the IPL in accordance with a predetermined logic. CONSTITUTION:When it becomes clear that failures occur in the cylinder O of a disk pack and the track of a head H0, and the control signal C of the disk pack is set to an input condition, a logic converting section 20 converts head address information into an address signal in accordance with a predetermined prescribed logic and outputs the address signal. When, for example, a head address signal corresponding to the head H0 is inputted, head access is performed and, when an IPL is stored in the cylinder O of the disk of the head H1, the disk pack can be used again.
