A drying device, in particular for sawn timber, has at least two drying chambers (A, B, C) separated from one another by at least one partition (1), at least one fan (11 to 14) in each of the drying chambers and at least two connection ducts (4, 5) for mutual connection of the drying chambers, it being possible to throttle or shut off each of the connection ducts by means of blocking devices (15, 16). In order advantageously to guide drying medium to where it is required, in at least one of the drying chambers interconnected by the connection ducts, a fan (12, 13) is assigned to the connection duct and arranged directly next to the connection duct. The blocking device has a flap which is mounted on one side and which in the closed state forms a part of the side wall of one of the connection ducts. The flap is arranged directly in front of the fan in the delivery direction of the same and in the open state forms a guide surface for the drying medium delivered from the fan (Fig. 1). <IMAGE>
