The invention relates to a system for gas cooling of the active iron of a stator of a turbo-alternator, having axial channels and radial gaps which are formed by axial spreading of the laminate bundles. The object of the invention is to achieve a balanced temperature response, with low demands on the pressure response, with a simple construction and without any major structural cost and space requirement. The essence of the invention is that the radial gaps are grouped into two inlet zones and one outlet zone along the length of the machine, the axis of the outlet zone being fitted in the axis of the overall length of the active iron, and the distance of the axis of the left-hand entry zone from the left-hand edge of the active iron and the distance of the axis of the right-hand entry zone from the right-hand edge being selected to be in the range of 5 to 25% of the overall length of the active iron.
