The leno attachment is provided with a leno yarn carrier which defines a pair of parallel yarn lanes, a standing yarn needle which may be integral with the carrier or separately spaced from the carrier and a deflecting lever for guiding a leno yarn from one yarn lane to the other in synchronism with a shed change. During deflection from one yarn lane to the other, the leno yarn is able to cross over the standing yarn from left to right and from right to left. In other embodiments, the lever may be replaced by a pin wheel or a pivotally mounted spring. The leno attachment may be used on different types of weaving machines include a jacquard weaving machine.
