The free stop retainer comprises a body(2) with engaging and article- retaining portions, and a post(1) with at least one longitudinal groove. The engaging porition is slidably engaged in a longitudinal rail hole in the side of the post, so that it projects outwardly from the hole. The body is formed with a tapered surface opposed to the side wall of the post. A lever(3) is rotatably formed with a stopper at one end, which is guided on the tapered surface. The lever is elastically urged by a spring(4) in the direction that the stopper urges the side wall of the post.
