A stop and guide device which can be fastened to the base plate of a hand-guided circular saw is proposed which is distinguished by the fact that it is designed as a guide channel (2) extending parallel to the plane of the saw blade and provided with a longitudinal recess (2'). A tongue (4) is arranged in the guide channel (2) in such a way as to be axially displaceable against a restoring force. A stop (11) is combined with the tongue (4) by means of a holding means passing through the longitudinal recess (2'). A device of this type facilitates the manipulation of the saw and permits in particular exact basic and angular cuts. <IMAGE>
