424,272. Casting composite ingots. AKTIEBOLAGET BOFORS, Bofors, Sweden. Aug. 15, 1933, No. 22818. Convention date, July 29. Addition to 407,472. [Class 83 (i)] In the manufacture of hollow ingots according to the parent Specification, the tube 7 is so arranged that it does not extend through the whole discard head. The tube 7 is positioned by a projection 5, Fig. 1, which embraces or enters the tube and is made of, or filled with, refractory material 6 and is carried by the sheet metal cone 4. In a modification the tube 7 is carried by a rod 8, Fig. 2, which is positioned by a cover 11. That part of the rod 8 within the cone 4 may be covered with a sleeve 17 of cheaper material or with graphite, clay, &c. In another modification, a tubular extension of cheap metal is welded to the tube 7 and in yet another a spider 10, Fig. 4, is employed, the upper end of the tube 7 being plugged to prevent molten metal from entering. The cone 4 may be corrugated. |
