The process is for measuring an object with two side surfaces which is illuminated by at least one radiation source. The radiations reflected on the object are picked up by two detectors fitted over it. The detectors produce electrical signals proportional to the picked-up radiations, which are fed to an electronic evaluation unit. The measurement object (10), through individual sweeps, (A) is investigated along a stretch comprising a sweep area, using a bunch of radiations moving at an adjusted speed. Each of the detectors (22') with their vision fields (22A) cover each side surface (10b,10c) and the whole of the upper surface (10a) of the object, and produce a signal sequence. The evaluation unit provides as an indication of the measurement sweep one end point and the signal sequence's first passage from values below a set threshold value to those above it.
