The invention relates to a device permitting the braking of skis and other vehicles moving by slipping over icy surfaces. It permits modification, as desired, of the carrying surface of the vehicle. The unit 4 carries, at its base, the tenons 3 which slide in the holes 2 made in the runner (skid) 1. The spring 6 holds the surfaces of the tenons flush with the carrying surface in the rest position of the device. The covering cap 9 ensures the holding in place of the device as well as its removability. Pressure on the handle 8 gives rise to the translation of the tenons and hence modification of the carrying surface. <IMAGE>
