High stretchable gel articles of high mol. polymers are prepd. by feeding a finely divided polymer, in a solvent for the polymer, in ratio by wt. of 1:1-100, to 1 end of an elongated kneader with at least 1 rotatable screw. The suspension is mixed and kneaded at a high mechanical shear rate, for 0.5-30mins. at high feed rate, and at increased temp. The mixt. obtd. is withdrawn through an opening at the other end of the kneader, into a gaseous or Liq. coolant, or onto a solid cooling surface, to form the gel article.
