The apparatus comprises, on the one hand, a base fitted with vertical pillars on which there is mounted in a sliding manner a framework 80 supporting a row of pipettes 92 adapted to be raised and lowered under the action of a motor 116 and a row of plungers 94 adapted to be raised and lowered in the pipettes 92 under the action of a motor 126 and, on the other hand, a rack carriage 36 which moves longitudinally under the action of a motor 40. The three motors are controlled by a microprocessor. The carriage carries a sample plate 16 equipped with washing 26 and rinsing 28 cuvettes, with a drying space 32 provided with a strip of blotting paper 30, with a row of fluid sample cells 24 and an application space 21 provided on a microporous support 20. Devices for monitoring the relative positions of the carriage, the pipettes 92 and the plungers 94 are provided. The microprocessor receives these position signals as well as operational sequences provided by a stored programme. The function of the apparatus is to wash, rinse and dry the tubes of the pipettes before and after each sampling and application of fluids. Application: analysis of organic liquids by electrophoresis or thin-layer chromatography. <IMAGE>
